Some questions:
1. How could White have forced the win after move 12?
2. In the original game, was there a better defence for Black on the King-side?
well, this isn't a forced cmate, but anyway....
13:Nf3g5 probable outcome h6xg5
14:h4xg5 be7c5
15:Qd4d3 ......
16:Qd3h7 cmate
Now joshua would have to be not concentrating very well to miss the check mate, but stranger things have happened.
Sorry, that wasn't much help for the question, but I cooked that up in 47 seconds. Will have a longer look for forced cmate.

I personally didn't like black's response to your opening, but that is just a personal thing.
Oh, and is it a specific move that you want advice on for your opponent's defence?
In answer to the first question, while I don't see any forced win after move 12, I have to say I think 12. Qg4 is not a very good move. It just makes a one-move threat that is very easy to parry. I think 12.g4 would have been much better. You have a crushing advantage in space in the center and on the kingside, and with his pawn on h6 it will be very easy to open up lines to his king with moves like h5, g5, and g6. There isn't a whole lot he can do to stop this from happening. Meanwhile he's well behind in development, which means he won't even be able to carry out a suitable counterattack, but will be stuck trying to defend against your attack for the whole game.
I actually kinda liked black's 13 and 14 moves. I mean, 13 did allow for the defensive development of the rook. And 14 at least saved the pawn. he could've done worse. Admittedly, 13. ... g6 might've held better.
19. ... Bd7 was pretty weak. The queenside was NOT the issue, and neither was connecting the back rank. I would have gone with Rg7, to be followed by Nh7.
However, white's failure to press the attack, and indeed, hanging of a knight, doomed it completely.
Originally posted by lucifershammerNaa,after 16.Qe8 white has 17.Qxe6+ winning both the e and d-pawn and even keeps the pressure on black's kingside.Should be enough to win the game.
I thought 16. Qe8 could've held the position.
In response to the analog kid,Qg4 is a lot more than an easy to parry one move threat.f5 is black's only defense as far as I can see,and this is a severe weakening of his kingside. It creates holes and makes the e-pawn backward.I like that move better than g4.After 13.g4 black has,for instance,13...,Bc5 forcing a trade of bishops which takes away a lot of the pressure. Not saying g4 is bad,but it doesn't look very convincing to me,I like Qg4 better.
That's my view on things.Maybe someone that actually knows how to play chess will come to set us straight 😀
