Years ago in postal tournaments players who "silently withdrew" were often prohibited from entering further tournaments for a year, and then had to pay double the entry fee to play again. On another site I play at they are suspended for 12 months.

Different sites different rules. It's not hard on this site for example, to find subscribers who have not moved for several years and yet are still paying the annual subscription. Wish I was that rich!
