Is there a difference in these two Fritz 13's:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Q9JL8M/[WORD TOO LONG]

And:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00604IFBQ/[WORD TOO LONG]

The cover for the first matches what shows up on the ChessBase site, and most others that I've looked at... but the other is quite a bit cheaper. The screenshots indicate support for "Let's Check", which seems to indicate it's the same.

Some chess base products are marketed in the USA in partnership with viva media. That seems to be the difference.

The Chessbase version mentions a 6-month premium membership to the Playchess server. The Viva Media version just mentions access to the Playchess server, whatever that means.

The Viva Media label made me wonder if it was a different product, but that makes perfect sense. Thank you!

I recently bought a copy of Fritz 11 at Target for $5. The product itself is the same either way.

The reviews for Fritz 13 seem good, so it is definitely worth considering.

Another year, another Fritz. This version's new whistle is the "let's cis aheck" feature which purportedly is a great tool for serious analysts. The rub here is that if you're serious analyist, you wouldn't be running Fritz in the first place. I train with Fritz 12 by playing games against it in the opening Im learning and by putting in theoretically won or drawn endgame positions in it. If I want to train against a different style I load up Junior. I don't forsee needing another version of Fritz.

They are identical, except the more expensive one you get a premium membership to playchess.com, and thus get the playchess.com premium content. With the cheaper one, you can still play on playchess.com, but you have to pay for any premium content you might want. It appears that the premium content is mainly training stuff.

Recommendation: If you are going to be on playchess.com a lot and interested in the training presentations (usually by GMs) which are quite good I think, I would get the more expensive Frtiz. Otherwise, I would go with the more cheaper Fritz (black box). That's what a friend of mine did, and he is happy with it.
