Wow, that's amazing! I was quite happy with my rating........ up till now. Just shows how much more I need to learn! This Golden King must be better than Kramnik. Are you sure he's not Kramnik in disguise? I'm sure even chess programs are not that strong?

How strange. It looks like someone worked out a way for players to start with an enormous rating rather than 1200, then created a few new accounts (ks1, ks3, Golden King) and fiddled their games/results so that Golden King managed to get above 3000!

It's a simple process really. Make accounts A-Z. Use account A to boost account B during the provisional phase (after 5 games A will have a rating of 800, B of 1600). Use B to boost C (after 5 games B will have a rating of 1400, B of 1858). And so on.
You could also get an account out of the provisional period with a high rating and then use it to gain rating points fast (the non-provisional account would lose 32 points per game whereas you can gain 100s of points per game on the provisional account).
Your accounts start at 1200 but by exploiting the provisional system (and the p1200 first 5 game period) you can get a big increase in a few games.

And that's how it's done. Of course it's also dead easy to spot and will just get you banned.

Ahhh... that makes sense. But why? Why waste all the time and efforts to reach 3000? It's not like there is prize money for achieving it? What's the point having 3000, when you play lousy anyway? I mean, I can go get the strongest chess program; then play on here with it and get to say 2500. But I can't play well anyway. If it's anything about fame, nobody really knows me on here anyway?

Yes, Golden Condor got to 3000 by winning against ke3 in this game Game 2512638, ke3 got to 2600 by winning this game Game 2512482 against ke1, ke1 got to 2,200 by beating Golden warria (1,800ish) in this game Game 2512425, who got there by beating Golden Condor at 1,600 (Game 2510610), who got to there by beating e Condor in this game: Game 2510545. e Condor got to 1,250 by playing someone called mind chess who appears to be a genuine player who has since left the site.

The provisional rating's system is open to abuse, basically by someone setting up multiple accounts and getting ratings points by losing games with an older account to a newer one. The site admin's were clearly as unamused as me. Frankly he wasn't even artistic about it, just played 3 moves and resigned (you need to get through 3 moves in order for the game to count towards ratings, when you are provionally rated you get opponents rating + 400). If he'd at used some classic games from grandmaster play there'd be some points for artistic impression, but as it is all I can say to Golden X is "stupid child".

I can't agree with you more. That's really stupid. What a hell lot of trouble to get that forsaken 3000, just to get banned from here in the end. Oh well, in that case I am happy about my 1600+. It might not be very impressive, but I am proud of my achievement.
