Looking back to when Deep Blue beat Kasparov 4-2 or whatever it was and condsidering that Kasparovs rating is 2850. I wonder if it was possible to rate it in terms of its own performance. This defeat of Kasparov came as a shock to the chess world, but it also revealed that no one machine is perfect (baring in mind that the perfect move is played every time) as it did not win all the games. Perhaps it went to show that the mathematical performance of the worlds top computers are able to triumph over the human brain.
I do not know about Deep Blue, but Shredder 8, with a Athlon 1200 MHz 256MB computer, is rated at 2818. There are stronger computers. I saw a gameing computer that was 3000 MHz with 3000 MB. The tower cost three thousand dollars. I was told the match Deep Fritz had vs. Kramnik had eight processors working. Deep Fritz that played Kramnik is not the same as Deep Fritz in your computer.
