Nothing like the nice sound of playing casual but serious game with a nice chess set, fancy old ticking clock and that beautifull wooden sound when you move the piece... No plastic chess sets please 😠 !

How often do you guys have opportunity to play chess in real world, except the ones that are members of chess clubs...?

I have a chess board and classical Staunton pieces. And luckily, my almost neighbor plays chess. I also have a digital chess clock. So once a week or two we play a game with 1 hour for each.

My work conflicts with every chess club near me (including the one in the college where I teach!) so I play more online than anywhere else at present. When I get the chance i play my sons using a very nice wooden set from India.

I prefer OTB. There are more factors involved when playing face to face. Dealing with anxiety and nervousness (and other psychological factors) is critical as well as having a strong will and being physically fit and able to concentrate for long periods of time. Moreover, you're really on your own and the clock is ticking.

I have nice brand new digital chess clock (DGT XL) for two months now, but I didn't use it yet. I can't find opponent 🙁

I like nice wooden sets. Chess can have a little bit of hedonistic note too. When I here the sound of the wooden pieces hitting the board I want to play for the rest of my days 🙂

nah the best sound is when you are using a plastic tournament set and you take yer piece in hand and capture an opponents piece and they grind together for a second....

thats the best sound.....i'm only a 1400 on a good day but my set has seen a lot of games....so it has chips worn away on all the pieces....well except the pawns...

My personal favourite is a marble set that I bought in Turkey.
