Do you think my calculation and tactical ability will increase if I study checkmates?

now i know that sounds silly and most will say yes.

But remember these are checkmate tactics....not regular tactics to win a pawn or the exchange or even material.

So the question is....If I study checkmates will I get better at winning that extra pawn or the exchange etc etc??

Why not study the pawn winning tactics then? Or study them both?

The thing about studying checkmates is that it will increase your pattern recognition skills.

Periodically, you will be put into a position and you will recognize the patteren and be better prepared to find the winning attack.

So yes, it will help.
