i would say i does. blitz games are characterized by trapish openings that on deeper analysis are unsound and a "need for speed" attitude even when playing standard time controls. also there isnt much information to be gleaned from a post analysis of a blitz game, the loss usually coming from some gross blunder. im curious why blitz is so popular on the internet and in alot of chess clubs.is it because fewer people can sit down to a 3 or 4 hour game nowadays or do they get an adreniliene rush from fast games?

Blitz only ruins your "normal" chess game if the player considers them the same game. Blitz is a different game; as long as the player can differentiate the two types of chess he should be okay. If he can't, then he should stick to whichever type he enjoys more.

I played allot of Blitz when I first started playing, I think it gets your opening's down pat when you play 20 fast games rather then 1 slow game, You got to play Strong ppl though, and don't just make random moves, I know some people who can do 15 moves a sec, and they are very strong, I beat a couple GM at 1 min games, but usually a GM cant play 1 min games, that's why Blitz is popular because it takes a different kind of talent, I do agree if you want to be better at slow games you need to play slow games, so you can analyse it thru.

I play both fast and slow, And to me fast is allot more fun because there is a chance I can find a tactical advantage against a high rated Blitz player, whereas if Im playing somone on a slow game thats rated a couple hundred points above me, I get Squashed

PS I know allot of people will disagree with me, probably cause I'm on a correspondence chess site lol

Seems like the strongest blitz players are the strongest slow players.
Anand, Kasparov, Kamsky, Naka, etc.
Pay your dues with slow games, then knock your self out with blitz.
How else are you going to build up pattern recognition, and "deep thought"?

I would say it depends. If you focus on EVERY game, I think you can't really "hurt" your game. But after playing many many blitz games, I developed the habit of just scanning the board and moving... which isn't THAT bad in blitz but on rhp I get owned. Strangely enough my rating is 1500s on RHP and 1300s in ICC=/

When I play habitual blitz players, they move fast out of habit, but the moves are invariably superficial. A lot of empty threats, sacrificing with no real hope of winning. They just don't have the patience to grind down an opponent with strategic advantage. That being said, I do play lots of blitz on ICC, playchess.com for fun. When I lose I check it out on Fritz and find out where I went wrong. Sometimes this helps me in longer games. Sometimes I just miscalculated. As someone said, the greatest players are also the greatest blitz players. I think this is because of their quick sight of the board, recognition of patterns almost instantly.

"The Herceg Novi blitz (1970) event was the speed tournament of the 20th century. It had four world champions competing, and Bobby (Fischer) not only finished 4 ½ points ahead of Tal in second place, he also obliterated the Soviet contingent, 8 ½ - 1 ½, whitewashing Tal, Tigran Petrosian and Vasily Smyslov, six-zip; breaking even with Viktor Korchnoi; and defeating David Bronstein with a win and draw. According to one report, Fischer spent no more than 2 ½ minutes on any game, thereby also giving, in effect, heavy speed odds to powerful opponents." the Chess Beat by Larry Parr

I'm down on Blitz because it trains the mind not to think.
I'm down on correspondence because the mind thinks too much.
I'm down on chess because there's no one left that plays it.
Boy, chess must suck! 😛
