Okay, i was playing against Fritz, and it said "Fritz doubles, do you accept?" I said yes, and he castled. What in the world does "doubles" mean?
Thanks

I guess that means if you don't accept it, you'll be resigned at that point, and you'll lose x amount of money. if you accept, the amount of money will double, and you'll lose 2x if you lose, and win 2x if you win.

yeah, I'm thinking like backgammon with the doubling cube.
You play backgammon to a certain number that has 2 as its factors. The game originally is valued at 1 point. but at any point either play can "double". Decline the double is resignation. However, after the first double (making the game value 2) the person who doubled cannot double again. Only the one who accepted can double. This goes back at forth.

So Player 1 double, 2 accepts. Only 2 can double.
Player 2 then doubles, 1 accepts. 2 cannot double again until 1 doubles back at him.

Okay, thanks guys. As far as I can tell, you were right. I thought I was just trying to learn to play chess, turns out I was gambling with fake money against a fake person...

I seen it being played at 5 minute chess on the circuit years ago.

You play a game for £1.00 if one player shouts 'Quattro'" then
you either accept (you are now playing for £2.00) or forfeit the game.

The good players would give themselves dodgy positions and
always accept a Quattro and give one back.

£1 - £2 - £4 - £8 - £16 etc it soon goes up and so does your heart rate.

Don'y know why they shouted 'Quattro' (probably spelling it wrong).
