just wondering..... is it kosher to offer a draw when you know your opponent has a winning position? this happened to me recently, i declined, made my move and my opponent resigned so it was a no harm no foul situation. but what is someone mistakenly misread the situation and accepted? im curious as to what others think.
Originally posted by KDP920if someone accepts a draw in a winning position, he deserves it. but it's still ridiculous to offer one in a lost game. I'd probably add such a person to ignore list instantly.

oh, wait, I had one just a couple of weeks ago but didn't add him. maybe I should, just in case I run into him again.
I wouldn't be too harsh on someone who draws then resigns. It depends on the position. There have been times when I thought it was a draw then the next move reveals that it isn't.
Although if someone keeps offering a draw when it is clearly lost for them, then that is another story. Even then you can just play on and win.
in this game i was offered a draw four times when i had a substantial advantage.. i got infuriated, blundered, and lost. Game 2806749
edit: 🙂 ... 😕 ... 😠... 😞

I was black in the position below. My opponent has just played 21.bxc3 and offered a draw. I thought about it for twenty minutes, then accepted.
What did I realize when I awoke in horror at 3:00am the next morning?
b3, Rf2 ...
i'd always be suspicious now about an opponents interests in offering a draw. i remember reading about a gm who would offer a draw early in a patently even position. opponent thinks he's missed something, refuses, and plays overaggressive. i'm sure there are some complex psychological factors in this. fair enough, war is war.
In this game the guy offered me a draw after move 5 for 3 or 4 moves in a row. I wound up timing him out for being a moron.
