Hi all. I've been looking at the dutch but I'm sceptical. It seems that whenever I play white against it, I have no problems (1. d4 f5 2. Bg5 being my favourite line). Can anyone convince me to keep studying this with a view to playing it as black?
I always play the Dutch against 1 d4. Although 2 Bg5 after 1... f5 is not my favorite move for White, it can lead to problems for them. The best move is probably 2...g6, but you can try to trap the Bishop with 2...h6?!, although I do not really recommend it. The Stonewall Dutch is very strong (Black has pawns on f5, e6, d5, and usually c6, with a bishop on d6 and a Knight on f6, castle kingside.) Black gets excellent kingside chances with ...Ne4 and ...g5. Be careful, though. Black's light-square Bishop is horrible and if White moves a Knight to h3, then Bf4 will follow with an exchange of dark-square Bishops, which most of the time is not good for Black - bad Bishop (Black) vs. good Bishop (White).
