If there are statistics regarding such a subject it's unknown to me. Perhaps you could begin a ground breaking work, though it would be a Herculean undertaking. An educated guess would be that both d4 and e4 have been given pretty equal attention. Don't forget to include c4 and Nf3, though these tend to be transpositional.😲

Simple enough I think - someone with a fast computer needs to do a Chessbase Opening Report using the current 2.3 million game database but with zero moves - it'll give you the exact stats you want - but it'll probably take a looong time to run.

If no-one else does it in the next few days send me a message and I'll install Chessbase and the 2003 Big Database on one of my ultra-fast dev machines at work and leave it running over the weekend.

Paul.

Hi!

This may be a serious indicator... I have Fritz Powerbook 2002 and came to the following figures:
1. e4 = 279,629 games
1. d4 = 236,330 games
which was my guess anyway. 1. e4 played a liitle bit more than 1. d4.

Is this of any help to you?

Cheerio!

I also guessed that e4 was played a little more than d4,but I was wondering of the results of the games.Wether e4 has a higher,or lower,winning percentage than d4.
Anyway,thanks for the effort.It's greatly appreciated😀

I don't have any statistics, but with the numbers given by Jan Pot (which seem very reasonable to me) , you can expect more or less the same winning percentage for white in both. Gil.

Probably.I did manage to find a site where they give the win,draw loss percentage for every opening.Along with a bunch of games.
That comes close enough😏

This is a very difficult question! I again let Fritz Powerbook 2002 search. Here are the results (percentages for Black!)...

1.d4 = 36 through 46%
1.e4 = 34 through 47%

Does this make sense to you et al.?

Here are some cool stats I’ve discovered.

Italian Game: 41% White wins, 26% Drawn, 33% Black wins
English: 37% White wins, 36% Drawn, 27% Black wins
King’s Gambit: 47% White wins, 15% Drawn, 38% Black wins

So Black wins 36% and loses 46% of the time against d4 and 34%wins,47% losses against e4.Do I understand that correct?

A very slight difference!As to be expected,of course.
Thanks again,for taking the effort😵
