Just tried this in http://www.redhotpawn.com/core/playchess.php?gameid=281688 using a knight to take pawn and set up a two way choice. however it appears the pawn was not taken.

Does anyone know why not?

I am by no means an expert, having last played chess when I was about 15, but am enjoying the site and my first few games.

hope someone can help.Game 281688

I'm confused but I think you're trying to take a pawn en passant BUT BY TAKING WITH A KNIGHT!??
En passant captures can only be carried out by capturing with one of your pawns...there is no en passant capture involving anything other than a white pawn and a black pawn

In the entire game there was no possibility for an en passant capture. The pawn on f2?You captured it with your knight, quite normal.
And the pawn is gone,so what exactly is your question?I don't get it 😕

Hi, and welcome to the site! 🙂

I'm not quite sure what you are asking here - which pawn wasn't taken, and on which move?

I think you might be confused about the en passant rule. En passant can be taken in a situation when your opponent moves a pawn two squares up, and it lands on a square that is next to your pawn. In that case, on the next move, you may take that pawn by moving your pawn diagonally, just as if your opponent had moved the pawn only one square. There are some clarifying diagrams to be found at http://www.chessclub.com/rules/Prise-En-Passant.html

I hope that helps!

Thanks all for the input. You were correct, I was unaware that EP was only possible P to P as it were. I was 15 last time I played any chess so the grey matter certainly needs waking up.

Many Thanks for the contributions.

Had my first real win yesterday so feeling very happy.

Again, thanks to all.

Brad.
