I believe Kf3 or 2. Kf2 (?) is important but Black's defense can be somewhat more stubborn right? Where's Keith when you need him

Well post what you consider a more stubborn defence for Black.

As said somewhere above, I don't understand the exercise, but 2. ... Kg7 doesn't strike me as "most stubborn"

i'm looking at van perlo's excellent book.
the main take-away is that there are tactics in the endgame too.

Careful. Black could have played 6. ... Kh7 and White is scuppered. Here's how that one should have played out:

Yes very good, white leaves the plane of opposition, and would be forced to move his
rook twice (against the puzzles rules).

Here is another opposition puzzle...but here, white must try to pull of a tricksy draw!
    White to move

The point is to show how powerful the Opposition is, and how it can be used to drive your opponent's king away from where it wants to be.

Here's a similar (sort of) position which I use to teach a different theme, the zugzwang. The idea is that White is trying to queen the c-pawn, but he's not allowed to move his king.

This is my favourite opposition puzzle.

White to play is trying to draw. If you give this to even quite experienced club players, they'll play Kc2 without any thought.
