Anyone who wishes to imrpove their endgame, quite possibly the most important part of the chess game should definitely think about investing some money in the book "Endgame Strategy" by Shereshevsky. Excellent book and not very difficult at all to understand. Also, good for all levels.
Originally posted by buddy2My favorite endagme I ever played was a pawn rush I did otb where we each had three pawns on opposing sides. Mine were closer to the eighth rank and I was pushing them with my king. He broke rank and ran one of his pawns down going for his queen, I pushed two of my pawns in with the king behind them, something like five moves each, he put his king in front of my pawn on the seventh rank I put my king behind it. He made his final pawn move to the eighth rank queened his pawn, smiled, and I pushed my other pawn to the seventh rank, and smiled more when I said checkmate. I will never forget the look on my opponents face. He just stared at the board disgusted as I left. It was only one win, but it is one memory of chess I will carry with me forever.
My endgame strategy is to push my pawn(s) as far as they can go. Everything else is fluff.
