so my friend let me borrow his laptop which has a primitive chess programme on it. however, to my dismay it usually destroys me every time, particularily as i tend to get phased by the speed at which it moves, lulling me into treating it like blitz. last night i made a concerted effort to concentrate and use the fact that the silicone beast is a greedy bugger, and lo and behold, 1-0! ok, so not that impressive as it was on the easy setting, but i found the game fun and thought it may be of interest. i hope the pgn works...i am a luddite and havent tried to do this before, so fingers crossed....

I've never tried it in friend mode, though, and I don't know how many games it takes to make the adjustment. It's also possible that it might have a low cutoff point that it won't go below, such as 1000 or 1300 elo.
I am not sure how much friend mode dumbs it down. I would be interested in learning more about chess engines.
Originally posted by heinzkatI'm not sure that i understand? d x c6 looks ok to me, unless i am missing something ( which is likely), and then carry on as before, or swing the rook round to the d file. by the way, i think the position was probably lost well before q a4...
Yes, of course, yes...
