Ever heard of the quote, "tis the nature of the beast".

Basicly, the KG is a beast, you do one mistake, you're dead, checkmated in 20 moves at most, but the same applies to both sides. This is a well known fact, which is why I don't recommend the opening for players under 1500 rating, this opening is best left for the likes of ppl like Spassky. Your ...[text shortened]... your opponent in jeapordy, but puts yourself in jeapordy aswell.

Tis the nature of the beast.
That is exactly why my teacher told me to play the KG. Tactics are critical in chess. You give a newbie a position from the Ruy and he will blow it to pieces positionally. But give him a KG, where position doesn't matter as much, and he will do better. Tactics are better practiced from sharp positions, and what do you tell newbs to study? TACTICS! Alas, this has nothing to do with the current discussion!

maybe thats because your not playing fisherπŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

i mean i could defeat a 700 rated player with the fred defence (1e4-f5) that does not mean its sound.

anyway im not trying to get you to quit the kg but i just think that there is a reason why gm's have stoped to play this opening.

Maybe i'll start playing it too, i have to admit i like most of the kings gambit positions better then those of the vienna.

If I remember, Fischer's article was considered unsound, not the KG - or at least new ideas came out which kept the opening sound.

thats one mention of a game played by a GM most of us havent heard of... great job.

P.S. That game was against Magnus Carlsen, a thirteen year old, and they drew....πŸ˜›

Much as myself personally enjoy the KG, didn't Fischer himself publish a "bust to the KG?" years ago?

Sure I have, but they also happen to be amazing tacticians who win most of their KG games through outplaying opponents in the middle game...

So? Isn't that the point of the opening?

It's the people who play it that are warped πŸ™„
