This game was posted quite a while back on here and I've only just re-discovered it.

If you have never seen it before then you are in for a wee treat.
16 moves. 10 by the White Knights ending in a Knight Mate.

This may be a stupid question but after black played e5, I cannot see why white did not take, I've played through this game several times and it is excellent, looks easy but I know its not.

Taking on e5 is just trading. White's Ng5! attacks the f7 square before Black is ready to castle.

Thanks, by coincidence I've just been reading about the vulnerability of then f7 square. May I also ask why white played a6, would it not have been better to develop the knight on g8?

You mean, why black played a6? That looks like a mistake. Yes, it would have been better to develop the N.
