part of the game.

Often from brilliant play. I can't see the argument for unsportsmanlike.

Draw is a part of the game. There are draws for a reason.

don't get me wrong, but I just can't understand how this could even be a matter of discussion. really, I can't.

If at the last seconds of a soccer match, the losing team has won a penalty, should the player kick it out deliberately or try to score a goal?

If I have an overwhelming advantage and my opponent pulls out a draw by perpetual check or three move rep then it's definately bad sportsmanship on his part not to let me win. But if I pull off a draw when I'm being badly beaten, it's brilliant play by me.

Its part of the game... Nothing like bad sportsmanship...

And we cannot compare 64 squares with a soccer field 😉

Here is the game log from the game I am playing with this joker. It will let you know how I feel:

Black says...
I try to make a draw.My only chance not to loose.

White says...
Yeah. That's not really a very sportsmanlike way out.

White says...
Come on, man. If you feel like you're going to lose, you should just resign.

Black says...
I resign when I found out myself.Check my thread in chess forum!

White says...
Whatever. You're a coward. The worst part is that you haven't even lost yet. There were a ton of different ways for you to try to pull out the win before you gave up. But you weren't losing, you just gave up. And not only is that bad sportsmanship, and totally dishonorable, but it takes all the fun out of the game. You'll get your draw but your score will still go down and it's not going to do you any good in the tournament. You'll just have wasted my time and yours.

Check out our game to see that he went to perpetual check way too early: http://www.redhotpawn.com/core/playchess.php?gameid=5300486

And I feel the same about those of you who think that it's not bad sportsmanship. Perpetual check may be in the rules of the game, but it's definitely not in the spirit of competition. It's a spineless move.

You're an imbecile. And a poor sport. Shut up and play rather than bothering your opponent with your nonsensical ideas about how they should play. If I'm losing and I see a way to force a draw, I do every time and so does every player who has any knowledge of the game.

In his defense, snortjp resigned as I was posting that, which I think is admirable.

So if I understand this right, you "smack-talk"ed your opponent into resigning while he had achieved a draw? Not that admirable in chess.
