I drew my first tournament game against a 1300 rated player, when i was playing for 4 weeks.
What do you guess your playing strength at that time?

I am wondering how is it possible that you can solidly beat 1400 player only 3 weeks after you started out playing. Frankly speaking I would have guessed black elo to be something between 1500-1700.

Originally posted by Jusuhby studying, like a mad person. that's why after my first three tournaments i took a long break from chess, it was consuming my life and i didnt do anything else. i studied the middle game and tactics more in the first two weeks than i have ever since. we had 1 1/2 hours a piece during the game so it wasnt hard to go over many many moves before making a decision. i was never foolish enough to just let someone take my pieces like a lot of beginners do. i understood the point system. there wasnt any masterpiece moves in that game, my opponent just had a few blunders and i was able to capitalize.

now this Game 1405439 is what a beginner's game looks like after three months of intensive playing, after a couple of thousands of tactical problems, even though it's a correspondence game. it's messy, chaotic, material dropping everywhere. - even yasser seirawan's beginner games were horrible, so it's not about the amount of talent either.
it just doesn't happen.
Originally posted by wormwoodwell, i learned how the pieces moved when i was about 7 but only played about 2 games when i was that young. after that i never played til my senior year in high school, which was last year. i had always wanted to pick up the game but idk, i just never did until then. i really had only been playing for 3 weeks when i went and played that tournament. the day i decided to take up chess i got a teacher and i spent at least 10 hours a day(it was summertime) playing, analyzing, doing puzzles, etc. for those 3 weeks straight. i got good real fast and now things ive kind of evened out since i dont study that much anymore. i think to become a 1500 player is easier than people think, it's just a matter of how you think when you look at the board. i wasnt taught just tactics, openings, and how the pieces move. i was also taught how to think when im sitting at the board looking at possible moves.
it's a nice win, congrats, but I don't believe for a second that you had been playing only three weeks. 🙂
