lukemcmullen, interesting material there in that link. I shall take a closer look at that - a pity it doesn't appear to be any coverage on the 3... Be7 move.

To those who like 3... c5 in response to the French Tarrasch, which do you prefer after White plays 4. exd5 ? Either 4... exd5 to enter into isolated pawn lines or 4... Qxd5 to avoid it altogether. What are your opinions on this ?

I don't play the French as black but I think ..Qxd5 is the preferred move. A line I like as White is:

1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 c5 4. exd5 Qxd5 5. Ngf3 cxd4 6. Bc4 Qd6 7. O-O Nf6 8. Nb3 Nc6 9. Nbxd4 Nxd4 10. Nxd4 a6 11. Re1 Qc7 12. Bb3 Bd6 13. Nf5!? Bxh2+ 14. Kh1 O-O 15. Nxg7! Rd8! (Kxg7 Qd4! wins) 16. Qf3

Nice sequence Tony, in the 4... Qxd5 line.

I normally play Tarrasch, if I face it against Black and I don't mind play against the 4... Qxd5 setups. I think the 4... exd5 move is a tremendously difficult position to evaluate for either side and still major theorectical battles continue to rage as we speak.
