Hello Everyone!

Any threads / sites which devote themselves to analysing the French Defence from either White or Black's point of view?

Much appreciated.

Bowmann highly recommends this opening. He's never lost with it as Black.

Badwolf, I've checked out that Wikipedia place, interesting items there as well as non-chessy stuff. I was hoping for some 'meaty' French stuff ... any other suggestions?

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking me here.

Has Bowmann played it frequently, and against better players?

or not ever? that would make him never lose. either that, or: "we are the Bowmann. resistance is futile."

he did refer to himself in third person.

Okay, Bowmann (and others who have replied), your opinions/discussions on this.

As Black, facing the French Tarrasch
i.e. 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 (FT)

There is (exhaustive) mainline theory on 3... Nf6 and on 3... c5, however 3... Be7 is becoming increasingly in popularity in high level chess - following one of the frequent lines with this move :-

1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 (FT) Be7 4. Bd3 c5 5. dxc5 Nf6 with a pleasant game for Black.

What do others think of this or do you prefer any of the 3... Nf6 / e5 lines instead?

That's a good drawing line. If black wants to win, white's center must be attacked. I play 3...c5. Against the Tarrasch, f6 usually precedes moving the bishop. Often, it can then move to d6, rather than e7.

My favourite line againts the Tarrasch is 3...c5, followed by fast queenside development and actually I often castle queenside too.
