after that move, we have:

and white is a tempo up in a Scotch Game.

For those of you who don't know it is 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 d5 5. exd5 Nxd5 6. Nxf7

Edits for spelling 🙂
It is only sound for white to attempt it if he knows what to do when faced with a Traxler(or other tactical lines which black can force) which is not something that I know yet but am working on( I am especially trying to find ih8sens secret line.)

Fried Liver is a great attack against someone who is about 1400 USCF or under. Otherwise it is somewhat dubious. It would be extremely unwise to initiate against a stronger player, as the stronger player will usually win.

After 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5? d5 5. exd5 b5 leads to an equal position where black is fine and whites attack disappears. This can be a fun tactical variation but again, the stronger player has a better chance of winning this opening rather than a safer opening.

or 5 ... Na5 where white wins a pawn but black gets a decent lead in development and white's attack and development disintegrates. Personally I would not want white here.

Here is a game I played (as white) when I believe in the Fried Liver.

The Fried Liver is fun for chess players under 1400 but after you become stronger you learn that the attack leads to nothing but equality and actually white is worse off if black has a little opening prep against it.

The Two Knights Defense Lives!

It is probably the most exciting opening to study and it can be fun in blitz games but I would not look to play it seriously in a tournament game or correspondence for that matter. Any veteran two knights defense players should know about this dubious yet interesting attack and have their prepared lines against the rookie player who thinks they have found a killing opening.

I was thinking about playing it in my high school otb matches. I played it in my last one but my oppenent played Ke8 instead of Ke6, which obviously gave white a dominant opening.

well, I'm right, black does need to be wary of that transposition, as white, as I said, will end up a tempo up, a developed piece up, and g6 is somewhat weaker and easier for white to attack.

I think the Fried Liver is absolutely better for black. Play the Traxler or the pawn sac line as black if you really feel it's necessary to avoid it. The real reason ..Nxd5 is not good for black is d4! (The Lolli Attack)

it isn't actually called the Fried Liver Attack until black plays ...Nxd5
obviously, Na5 is better, but that's not Fried Liver.

we could have drawn that conclusion ourselves...

I want to share my thoughts, but I'm defending the Black side of a Fried Liver right now simply because I failed to play 1...e6 in a Clan 24492 match. They've even considered booting me from the clan (or should).

That's funny, I don't care where you're from, that there is funny.

In the past, I've been rather confident playing against the Fried Liver attack. But my latest game gives me some pause: Game 4024561

I think white could play better somewhere.
