From a game I just played:

Black to play.

Should black play fxg2, and why/why not? Are there better moves for black, if so, what are they?

well, keep in mind I am a new simple minded chess player. i would play fxg2 and then white Kg1xg2 then black Qh4xf2 and then go from there. though I am sure there is something better

That'd work, but white has a much better move.

.....I thought we were talkin about black. but since we are talking about white. white should take her queen and hit that black pawn and put black in check

It's black to move, but what has a better move than Kxg2??.

It's black to move but you have to take into account white's move.

After 1...fxg2 what is white's best move?

BTW: You found that move anyway, but does that continuation still win for white after fxg2 Qxe5+?
I do not know. and now you have confused the simple minded chess player

Well, I never said that it would be easy for everybody, but you're doing fine so far. You just have to figure out whether black will be winning after 1...fxg2 or not.

Why are you so confused? Look at the moves and think.

gxf2 would allow Qxe5+ followed by Qg3 with the possibility of Nf5+. How about Qf6.

i wouldn't say either side is winning. chess is a war of attrition in my eyes, generally speaking. i will go so far to say, however, that white has better position

No, somebody is definitely winning after fxg2...

Agreed. Qg5 threatens mate and protects the vulnerable e5 square. White responds g3 to block the mate threat and then black plays something that I'm still figuring out.
