I've been playing on FICS for a while already and my blitz rating is still around 1100s. I've played 139 games so far, mostly 5 and 10 minut games.
I've just lost another one to 1100s player, this is so frustrating (It wouldn't be as much if my rating here was 1100 - 1300).
so an idea came to mind: maybe people who cheat here by using computer programmes do that because they just want to avoid the frustration of loosing...
Regards to everyone.

people who cheat, cheat at the most ridiculous things. like playing solitaire. it makes absolutely no sense, and they don't need a reason. it's just the way they are. a flaw in character, which could be fixed by working on it persistently. but that would take effort, so it can never happen, and they'll continue cheating at everything they do.
Originally posted by SquelchbelchJust a quick answer: I didn't mean that 1100s rated players on FICS cheated. I just transferred the frustration factor to corresp chess as one of possible reasons for desire to cheat.

What cheats miss is the sheer joy of analysing poitions and
throwing the pieces about creating some fantastic variations.
Here is a 'might of been' from a game I'm playing.
I was so looking forward to playing the White side of this
position after I found a plausible line if play.
Here are the moves leading to it.
Alas my opponent avoided it and we are now in a (spit) ending.
But I had loads of enjoyment playing out all the tricks 'n' traps
that lead to this position and what may come next.
A box would never venture down such folly.
(suspect better would be 13.Nxd4 and then Rxb7 - yuk.
In my D.E.R.L. the Queens Knight always aims for f5).
Not only are do they cheat their opponent but they are robbing
themselves of so much pleasure.
Why do they play Chess? They obviously don't enjoy the game.
Originally posted by GuychI think that frustration could also make you a more careful player (hating to lose). At least I hope that will be the effect on me 🙂

my fics blitz is 1054 (34 games) wheras standard rating 1708 (51 games). the difference is so huge and weird that if I had no idea, I would look at my profile and call myself a cheat.
Originally posted by diskamylThere are alot more people playing blitzes as opposed to standard games at FICS. I think the pool of standard players is a bit weaker than the blitz pool.

Originally posted by GuychThat will just be allowing for lag. To him it will look like your time is increasing!
A bit on another aspect of frustration:
I noticed that on FICS sometimes when I accept a seek, the opponent's time increases a little bit with his moves, but my time doesn't.
Could anyone here explain it, please.
Thanks.

Originally posted by Guychthe system just compensates based on the network lag: while your client hasn't heard from the opponent, it'll assume the clock is ticking normally, and displays that assumption. but when it finally receives the move from your opponent, there is a time stamp included (the moment your opponent sent his move), so your client can calculate how long the message travelled and adjust your clock accordingly.
