Hi

Would the higher ups or anybody really analyse this game for me. It ended as a draw, but there must have been a point when either my opponent or myself could have pulled out a win. I think for myself taking the bishop (move 52) was a mistake on my part. Could I get an idea of what I should have done to pull out a win and also what my opponent could have done as well that would secure a win.

Many thanks

Chessmaster 10th Edition recommends 42. Nxd5 for white.

For black, 47... Be1 or Qg4+

Black missed a mate in 9 starting with 52... Re3 or 54... Re3, and had a mate in 8 with 57... Qh3+

interesting thanks...

how does mate follow in 8 with Qh3+? This is a sequence I worked out...

Qg4h3+, kg2f2, Re3xf3+, Kf2xf3, Qh3xf1+ but didn`t follow it through from there any ideas?

Surely once black saves his rook from the g3 pawn and his checks stop, permanent check and/or losing the same rook to the queen via a pin against the black king in the g or h file has to be the outcome? So the safest route for black is to offer a draw via repetition around move 57?

But perhaps this only speaks to my limited vision!🙄

Here is the sequence CM gives for the mate:

57. Rf3 Qh3+
58. Kf2 Rxf3+
59. Kxf3 Qxf1+
60. Ke3 Qe1+
61. Kd3 Qxg3+
62. Kc2 Rh2+
63. Kb1 Qb3+
64. Kc1 Qc2#

According to CM, the checks don't stop.

Here's an alternative to an attempt by White to flee differently:

57. Rf3 Qh3+
58. Kf2 Rxf3+
59. Kxf3 Qxf1+
60. Ke3 Qe1+
61. Kf3 Qe4+
62. Kf2 Rh2+
63. Kg1 Qh1#

Some notes on the game:

20...Rxg3+!? is very interesting...Black gets a bunch of pawns for the Rook. 21.fxg3 Qxg3+ 22.Rg2 Qxe3+ and White has the choice between losing his h- and d-pawns or allowing his Rook to be pinned after 23.R~f2 Bg3.

24...e4! and the threat of ...Rxh4+ is winning.

25...Kd8? is a mistake. ...Rxh4+! is still there, waiting to be played. After the text, White takes over.

White missed 42.Nxd5+! cxd5 43.Rxc8 Rxc8 44.Qxb4.

And, as pointed out by many, Black mates with 52...Re3. It's simple, really - just gang up on g3, and White has no good way to defend.

I don't think that early h3 by white is a good move...wastes a tempo in my opinion

2.Qh5? is a serious error. Black's reply wins a pawn for free. This is why you're not supposed to bring the Queen out too early.

8.c5? is a pointless move. You should be getting other pieces into play, instead of just letting them sit on their home row. 8.Be2 is better, for example.

And finally, 10.Qxb7?? loses immediately. Always look at every check and capture before moving.
