excellent game firstly...
however imust say that white did something i NEVER do against the Two Knight's Defence
in my games where i am white and the line goes to (or transposes to):
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bc4 Nf6
4. Ng5!
i love this game, refusing to give my opponent opportunity to transpose back to a Giuoco Piano...
after this, lines may go:
4. ... d5
5. exd5 Na5 (not 5. ... Nxd5? 6. Qf3 is great for white... sometimes even the brilliant knight sacrafice on f7 followed by Qf3... doesn' matter really...)
6. Bb5+ c6
7. dxc6 bxc6
8. Ba4 and I usually don't have too much difficulty holding off black's attack and maintaining the pawn...
Originally posted by allosteryI was already planning to grab the b3 pawn with my queen, which would have left me vulnerable to Nxh6. I just popped the king up to protect h6.
With black's king on h7, any threat on f5 (like the N that was there then) could be met with g6. I think if I'd seen the need to move my king, I probably would have put it on h7. I see why you did it, though. When I have a move in mind (Qxb3) I only think of ways to make it happen. White spends way too many moves + energy after that to move in on the k ...[text shortened]... ined up your rook? I'm sure there is good theory behind it, but I don't really understand.

Black could:
1. drive off the knight (or force the sacrifice).
2. attack the f2 pawn with bishop.

I assume you meant 11. Qg3. How about the following replies?
11. Qg3 b5
12. Bxb5 Nxb5
13. Bxh6 Nh5
14. Qg4 Nxc3
Without the bishop and knight, white has no attack and black's ok.
I do agree with you though... there is no margin for error and I probably would not be able to pull this off OTB. And my original opinion of Guiocco Piano was hasty.
11. Qg3 b5
12. Bxb5 Nxb5
13. Nxb5
You are simply a pawn down with no compensation .. Not as easy at it first appears 😉

you're right ... it's not as easy as it first seems and my original calculations were not quite right. Looks like I was fortunate getting 11. Qd1.
But it ain't too bad for black.

12. Bxb5 Nh5
