But seriously, let's talk about chess. How often do you under-promote a pawn. I've rarely came across the need to do so in any of my games, except in one game where I could of mated by promoting to a knight, which I had overlooked at the last second. I still won with the queen though. Usually I only see this occassion in chess puzzles. Do you feel confident OTB, to see such an occassion where it could easily win/lose a game?
Haha, I always wanted to promote to a bishop of a color that I already had, just to have two of them. That would be sick! I have promoted to a knight a couple times, and a rook once to avoid stalemate. I have also missed promoting to a rook and stalemated quite a few times. I think that enough of these situations happen to you that make you think before plopping down that queen.
Originally posted by OtisWhen I have a clearly won endgame and my opponent will not resign, I have queened as many pawns as possible while avoiding stalemate. My record is 6 on the board at once. In my last blitz game I under promoted to a knight to practice the knight + bishop + king mate. In a rated game though, I just win as fast as possible. The only time I have ever actually under promoted to a knight for mate though was a bighouse game =(
