I've just entered my first hardcore grand tournament (hasn't started).
I have mixed feelings about it.
On one hand, I'll stay busy. On another, I'm a little worried about the time. Do the games usually finish before time runs out? I was just wondering if anyone could share their experiences with this unusual format. 🙂
well good luck, i do like them that much but that becouse there are a bunch of people above me they end up wining :'( but for u, u have a good chance at wining, usualy the timing is fine most finish before the time the last couple games could run out, and i am no used to having more then 50 games if i do i start more i end up losing a lot of them

Concentrating on finishing the games against really fast moving opponents will help you out too - most of these guys are just blitzing anyway so you dont have to worry about being caught in any especially clever traps (unless they are a 2100+ player who is moving at lighting speeds and thrashing everybody in sight - then you might be a bit wary)
When I was playing alot of hardcore I very rarely timed people out, and when I did it tended to be after the final result was already decided - probably because most players who enter those things are fast and have lots of time to spare.
I am enjoying the tourn, although it is mostly speed chess up to this point. In less than 24 hours, I finished 3 tournament games !!!
I've finished 6 games now !!! I doubt playing this fast will improve my chess overall, but this is a really fun event.
Also, I found the secret to an advantage in these tournaments.
On day 1, try to stay up 24 hours. Keep making a move every hour until, your opponent stops. Time him while he's away. If he's gone 6 hours or more, you found his bed time. Make a move every night at about that time. Now you have 6 hours on the clock every night.
🙂
I haven't actually done that, but it has to work. *
*unless they just stay up until they get tired and don't live on a schedule. (like me).
