Sicilian Defense is the best way to respond to e4 and is played by all of the top players around the world. However this opening is probally not the best thing a beginner should be playing. If you are a beginner you should probally be playing with e4 as white and meet e4 with e5 as black. These games usually result in open positions which are good for a beginner to practice. Just because all of the top players play with the Sicilian does not mean you will get good results.
