Due to insane preparations on my music academy to some music competition on world level (played my instrument up to 14 hours daily) i didn't have time for nothing except working, eating, sleeping. And I was so physically and mentaly exhausted that I didn't want to do it anymore, I wanted 1000 things (chess on top, but also hanging out with friends, reading, playing basketball) but now when competition is over I feel so empty, chaotic, with lot of, actually TOO MUCH of free time and I don't know what to do.

And when it comes to chess, I reached half a year ago about 1650 otb and then I didn't play seriously for half a year. Even here, I would start the game and then time would simply expire.

What is the best way to return to this world? I look at the chessboard and nothing is clear anymore, which has enormous influence on my motivation and will to play. What should I do, how do I start. Openings, tactics, just play... I don't know 🙄

Can you give me some advice, please?

All of the above was my approach. I study the openings as I play them here and learn from my mistakes as I go, do some light tactics stuff on CTS, but mostly I just play.

Play a hardcore tournament - they move at a faster pace so you dont forget your games.

doing simple tactics and playing a number of games might give back the feeling of the game, I suppose.

Well Ivan..I'm in the same situation. Check my sexy rating graph...

Basically, I just started playing again. I've been blitzing (poorly) on playchess and I started a lot of new games on here. I've got two going on against !~Tony~!, who I've played against a few times before. He generally always kicks my ass, but the games are always interesting and complex. And I joined a banded tournament to get a whole bunch of games quickly, which might piss some people off...but I'm not really sure of what my rating should be right now.

Anyhow, I forgot most of my opening theory (especially with 1.d4) so I'm gonna have to go back and review all of it.
