There is no rule to which side you should castle. Generally, though, castling King side is better than Queen side because the rook pawn is vulnerable and you usually need to use up a King move to protect it. But it all depends on your reasons, sometimes you want to castle out of a bad position or into a better one. Find a reason.
Sometimes, if you see you're heading fast into an endgame and your King's not under pressure, it's better not to castle at all.

I know it makes no bloody sense but this is what I do most of the times:
Castle kingside if I am white
Castle queenside if I am black

I know I am idiot but this is what I do.

When I castle I usually check if there is (or will be) an open file on one side of the board and head towards the closed side 🙂
