how good would you like to be?

A master at least 2250 USCF. with good tactical vision meanwhile please respond to my post about GM victor molanesko and the budapest gambit. thxs.

I aim to become an FM. I'm working at that goal. I'm pretty young, so maybe I could achieve it before I reach 20-25 years of age.

I'm hoping to become an FM eventually. Of course, higher would be nice too. I find that my enjoyment of chess and appreciation for the games of others rises a lot with my strength.

why is that? he says he aims to achieve it by 40. that means 15 years.

actually I think he has less chances than that...
1. he is too old and too far from that rating
2. he is too old
3. he is too old
4 he will not have enough time, money, will power etc to put in

I would bet against anyone anytime that he will not do that.
As someone said before, most of them peak below 2200 and be sure they all put a lot of effort...

OTB wise i would like to get to at least 1800 CFC (dont care by when but the sooner the better i guess...)
CC wise i would like to get to 1700 and then 1800.
Blitz Chess (ie. 5 min) i would like to get to 1800.

note: CFC 1800 = FIDE 1835 = USCF 1910 (approximatly- may be wrong on the conversions)

yeah, i hadn't noticed he was 1099. when he said he was 1600 a couple of years ago, I thought he'd be a lot higher now. you're probably right.

my plan is to get to 1800 until 01.01.2009. the long term goal is to get to master level until somewhere around.. death. 🙂

Although I'm pretty old (41) I still seem to be improving (I gave up chess in my late twenties and only started playing again three years ago) and my ambition is to reach 200 ECF (approx 2250 FIDE). This is the sort of level David Tebb and Northern Lad play at, although they are both a little stronger than 200. This is probably just beyond my capabilities, but that's what I'm hoping for.

the USCF and ECF guys...I hope you realize that your numbers can be read only by your countrymen...
in my opinion you should try to use more ELO word, even your numbers do not match exactly to an ELO number, we can get some estimation in our minds at least...

it is funny that most of a somehow stronger players aim for FM like level, but the weaker ones aim for much higher levels(GM)...
I think the weaker aim for that because they se they progress fast at their level and they think they can maintain this progress
and
the strong ones already know how difficult is to improve after some peak and they know how hard they worked till now and what a GM means...

My target is 1600+ by end of this year, slow and steady... then i will see where i go from there!
