Opinions on this differ way too much between players here to speak of a general code of conduct. Some claim instantly, some will wait an eternity and others, like me,look at the position and decide case by case.To me it also matters wether it's a tourney or clan game.As an example I have a game with dfm that is still in the opening fase.I could have claimed the win last month, but it's a friendly game and I know he will return so I don't.If it was,for instance, you, who I don't know and you didn't tell me when you would be back,I would have probably claimed after a week. For some others I would wait only one day and for some I would wait forever(almost,LOL).So you see it's a tricky thing. You have to decide for yourself as there are no general guidelines. But know this, you have every right to claim the win, don't let anyone tell you different! And believe me,some will!

what is fair has noting to do with what everybody does!
send a reminder, wait another day, then TO him!
th
ps: have a look at his other games: are they TOed? when did he make his last move... message him per mail... send him a RHP message....
Personally I'd give him some time, but that's me & I have unlimited games.

I do agree that it's different for pawn stars. With unlimited games it doesn't matter much to let one just sit there.

My opponent is down slightly. Without prior notice of a pending vacation he set one. he does not reply to messages in this 3 day timeout game. How long would you wait?
It's usually considered bad manners to timeout someone when they're on holiday (unless the game is already won) so give him a week or two.
i'm in a tournament game where my opponent hasn't moved for about 10 days (ina 7day TO). Checking his other games he hasn't moved in any of them as well. He had not put his vacation sign up, so i sent him a reminder. however, when i checked this morning his vacation sign had appeared after 10 days of not moving, however no moves had been made. Do tournament games automatically time out after a certain amount of time as was discussed ages ago?

edit: neither game has developed past the opening phase. One of the other players in the tournament group has claimed both timeouts

Still, good manners and all, I'd wait 15 days for him to return. But that's me.
I think it boils down to the star rating. With no star rating I can't afford dead games waiting 4 the person to maybe come back some time. I think it's bad form when someone is loosing to just disapear instead of resigning.
I recently TO an opponent, I waited for twice the TO setting (granted 2 x3 is only 6) & in that time sent him 3 reminders. Almost immediatelly after TO him his vac status icon disapeared & he sent me a sob story, BOO HOO
