I love going through Von Bardeleben's games. They are unique and hilarious. I don't think many people could play as well with those strange openings.

I think Von Bardelben got a fairly playable position against Korch....but got outplayed in the middlegame. Got hammered in the first game though.

Come on. In 3rd move he gave me pawn without any compensation. After that all was simple (maybe except 9.e5, which I needed to calculate).

Wow this guy seems to be coming in for a lot of stick, I have seen some other threads but maybe not all of them, did he insult somebody or something?

He insults so called "boring openings" e.g. openings which he doesnt play.

But he`s openings ( 1.h4 1.a4 1.g4 1.f3 and the same with black) are definetly not the best for white and simply nonsense for black.

Also he`s statement "Opening doesnt matter" are real nonsense (at least against more or less qualified players).

The key word was "fairly." Not losing outright, with some chances if you blew it. With a 500ish difference in rating, he probably didn't do worse with that stuff than if he played book.

After such bad opening he could hope only for blunder to avoid losing. Its not easy to imagine how he could get such stategical hopeless position after whites 4rd move in other more solid openings.

Right, and since you are 500 points higher, he probably needs a blunder to win anyway.

I dont see the point to all this. I think most of us know moving rook pawns in the opening isn't great.

Some lower rated players which von Bardeleben have won playing such opening moves, can start thinking that moving rook pawns in opening is ok and that "opening doesn`t matter" as said von Bardeleben.

hey bardelben if you really like wild weird openings like a4/h4, etc., why don't you try the Latvian Gambit? It's nutty and complicated, should suit your taste but it isn't a waste of moves that suck.
