i care a lot about my rating,
when it is too high or too low it sucks; things go wierd: my opponents play strangely, mixing brilliant moves with huge blunders, and the games fall apart one way or the other,
but the beauty is that it quickly corrects itself again, so i do not really need to care at all 🙂

I wish I could say I don't care, but it's addicting. I love to watch it climb, and find myself avoiding provisional players. I try to play newbies every once in a while, but often get crunched by them (my chess skills are no assurance against losing to newbies).
I also try not to let it drop too fast. I strive to have a rating that reflects my skill level so I can tell if I am really improving.
Ratings are part of the appeal (or frustration when it drops) like winning and losing.
I play to relax not to improve my rating.I enjoy predicting a series of events on the board and getting it right-usually after I"ve blundered I can see exactly what my opponent should do! I will agree the ratings are a usefull reference point against which we can gauge how well we are playing. But at the end of the day if you don"t enjoy it why do it?
