Consider this my first LEGITIMATE post.
For this discussion, I am ONLY refering to LIVE chess games, NOT correspondence chess. If you are a chess newcomer, forget about trying to detect cheating as 95% people will beat you. Only when you have risen to the level of an above average player, as I have, then will you be able to tell. Remember, I have 30 years of chessplaying experience under my belt, have cheated THE BEST for nearly 15 years, and have written a chess program. I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!
First, I will be assuming that YOU yourself are not cheating and that you are playing live internet chess. If you notice that your opponent is just ripping through their opening moves without even thinking, while making every single move in about 3 seconds, a RED FLAG should go up. Here's why. Chess programs play out opening lines to the full extent of their database INSTANTLY. The best move transposer (cheater) can duplicate those moves in about 2 to 3 seconds. A real human would use about 1 to 2 seconds because there is NO transposition.
Next, once a computer program is out of the book and begins to think, there is a NOTICEABLE delay from the last opening book move and the first thinking move. So, in the opening part of the game, if your opponent rips through the first 10 moves in 2 or3 seconds per move and then takes a considerably longer time for move 11...RED FLAG.
Middle Game....trickier. Seeing you yourself are an above average player, more than likely you will NOT get your butt handed to you time and time again. If you find yourself just getting hammered by the same person time and time again..RED FLAG. You are playing internet chess, remember, REAL LIVE GMs avoid internet chess like the plague, as it is PROVEN to ruin their game. Oh, a few washed up GMs play from time to time, but GMs that play internet chess are like Canadian Grandmasters, virtually nonexistant.
End game....EASY. Remember, it takes time for a cheater to input your move into chessmaster, wait for chessmaster to move, and then reenter it into your game. I can do it consistantly in 2, but most can do it in 3. If at the end of your game, your opponent is making even the most simplest of moves in 3 seconds (like moving a king out of check) raise a HUGE RED FLAG. Now, if your opponent is like me and an above average player, they can abandon the program and take over by hand and make moves in 1 or 2 seconds. But they usually wait till the game is in hand before doing that.
Now I'm not going into the details of auto232 type of programs that move the pieces for you. Not here. Also, there is no electronic method of detecting cheating in existence that is more than 50% accurate. The laws of REALITY prevent that. There is NOTHING that has ever been invented that can peek into your computer and tell if you have a chess program running in the background, besides, what about the slimeballs like myself that used 2 computers? Eh?
So, I hope this basic description of occurences will help you all in determining if you have been cheated or not. Time used per move is the MAIN factor. 3 second opening moves followed by deliberate middle game moves and 3 second end game moves. Seemingly PERFECT play.
p.s. Flamers and Trolls KEEP OUT of my TOPIC!!!!!
I'm not advocating cheating in any way shape or form. If you have been playing internet chess for any length of time, you know the #1 issue is cheating. FACT. As a former cheater, I'm here to help.
I'm like the slot machine cheater who is now on the payroll of Caesar's Palace to help catch other cheaters. I'm here for YOU.
The only drawback is that it is going to be too late once these symptoms have been diagnosed - the only thing to hope for is to keep the position fairly blocked and get them to a point where they are so short on time that they can either keep letting the engine move at its own pace, in which case they lose, or take over the game and play it themselves and hope you are a better player then them.
Well I googled Cheater_1 chess and had a look around. Don't go there. Believe me you will wish you had spent the time unblocking drains. At first I had a mild suspicion that this new account was one of my kids paying me out for imposing a Play Station ban yesterday...but no. According to his own ramblings he has 30 years chess experience and works in IT.
Yes I know you will be tempted to google the name too...what can I say.

In this thread he claimed that in 1995 he used Chessmaster on a GameBoy to become unbeatable at internet chess! There were some pretty strong chess programs around in 1995, but Chessmaster wasn't one of them.
Dear Cheater: let me get this straight.
You have been playing chess for over a decade, right? Lets face it, until about fifteen years ago, powerful chess computers were not available for public use anyway.
You state that you have played half a million games of chess. Let us assume that an average game of chess takes 30 minutes. BTW, this is far less than the average game of chess.
Let us assume that you have played chess every day of your life for 15 hours a day. This assumes that you have no job; since you are a millionare, never travel, don't have any hobbies, don't spend time with family, never do anything that does not allow you to play chess for fifteen hours a day. In short, we are assuming that you have no life whatsoever.
So, shall we get down to the facts? If you play fifteen hours a day, you can play thirty games of chess a day. Now, as you have played 500,000 chess games, let us divide 500,000 by thirty. This gives us 16,666.6. Are you following this? Now, as there are 365 days in a year, let us divide this number by 365. That gives us 45.66.
So, my friend, you have been playing chess fifteen hours a day, 365 days a year, since 1962; as you say you are now retired, I am assuming you retired last year.
My friend, there were no powerful, unmateable computers that were superior to Anand in 1962.
I'm sorry; it doesn't add up.

I am quite sure there is a fair amount of drivel thrown into these accounts, a warped form of artistic licence perhaps, but I'd still like to view some of what this chap has to say. I can draw my own conclusions and find it somewhat childish when a thread is removed for the most trivial of reasons, as one on this topic was removed yesterday. I say trivial, but I guess this, as I'm usually at a loss to find insult and injury ...then the thread has gone, deleted. Let folk write what they please, within the remits of decency, but chess is chess and most aspects I have an interest. Ok, rant over 🙂
Hey CLandarkfire, I DETAILED exactly how I accomplished 500,000 games yesterday, complete with facts and figures. The admin deleted that post as "trolling".
I will not type all that over again. I'll paraphrase that I was one of the co-authors of Chessbuddy, a java based program that moves the pieces for you. You know how many 1 minute games I "played" day in and day out for over a year......800 per day. Do the math. 800 games for about 300 days a year for a year and a half = about 350,000 games. And that was only in 1.5 years. I'm afraid it does add up.
Oh and please STAY ON TOPIC!!!!!
I'm sorry your posts are being deleted, maybe you should save any long posts in case they get deleted. Anyway, I don't think anyone is going to pay much attention to your original topics unless you answer their questions about yourself. Why don't you answer some of Greenpawn's questions?
Lets see a game where you successfully beat a GM cheating OTB.
Lets see proof of a tournament you won with your cheating meathods.
