Since I subscribed I started to play too much games, blitzing and playing with my fingers not with my brain, I lost 110 points in three days, mostly against weaker opponents because I traditionally underestimate them and blitz against them.
Then in desperated try to regain my rating I start new fast games against lower rated opponents, I regulary lose and this seems endless closed cyrcle.
And what is MOST important, without analyzing and looking to my games seriously, looking at all positional, tactical factors of the game, playing careless opening, I figured that I do not enjoy that kind of chess AT ALL. Even more, it kills my joy for playing. I would be 1700 by hunred times by now without that attitude that seems stronger then my will.
Anyone had same problems and went out as a winner ? How ?
I like to play 3 7 games, 1550+ players, because when I am serious that games are most enjoyable for me. How much such games should I have in progress ? Should I play weaker opponents at all (I lose against them way more easy then games with players of my rating).
Help me !

Then you have to choose a maximum number of games to be played at any time and stick with it. I just had to mass resign my games and lost a lof of points. 😞 I still haven't resigned them all cause I got sure wins on some of them and others have really interesting positions.
Playing weaker opposition isn't that good since in principle you won't learn anything besides don't move too fast. One thing that we must have in mind is that this is CC so a 3/7 game really means a 3/7 game. So hoping that your opponent replies right after your move isn't realistic. You and him have 3 days to make a move and then there is the timebank.
For me what needs to be stressed is that this is CC. Most of the times I even need to remind myself of that. Specially when I feel that I'm winning a particular game. So waht I'll do now after this current crop of games is due is that I'll only play three clan challenges at a time and only play on the tournaments I'm in right now. I won't enter any new tournament till I'm finished with at least two of my current ones and most my games will surely be 7/7 or 3/14.
Anyway goodluck and don't too crazy over this chess thing.

Maybe you rating has been superboosted by the wins you get playing the weaker weaker players and when you play just weak players your rating suffers.
I would suggest a month playing players at the 1200-1300 level see how you do.
If your win loss ratio is greatly in your favour the increase the player level 1300-1400 players for a month and so on.
Once the win/loss ratio gets to nearly 50/50 then you know you are playing amongst your peers.
Oh and never class your opponents as weaker when you lose. They have outplayed you. Blitzing excuses are not acceptable. You would still expect a 1700 rated player blitzing against a 1300 player to win 90%+

i make essentially two huge mistakes:
first and most annoying, the 'honeybee': going from one game to another, approx 2 secs of reflexion and finally getting completely f**d up....
second one, the 'donkey': realising i'm tired, stressed, should probably go running or do tai chi, but instead end up in games i get completely f**d up...
We know its no fun, but it is sooooo easy.....
I've done that. I would have streaks of good play followed by complacency /carelessness (rating dive). one of the key skills to playing well in correspondence is to be disciplined and think throughly every day, on every move. I believe this is why I have never beaten Davidmacc despite having solid positions against him a number of times; He is simply more focused over the long haul than I am.
To bring my gameload down, I stopped doing any Open Invites (posting or accepting), I play duels only, 1 clan league, as many sieges as possible, my round 2+ games and that leaves me open for about 1 more interesting tournament (right now that's the 2008 championship where I will not escape the first round). If that gameload somehow gets below 40, I will start accepting clan challenges until I am back at 50.
Originally posted by adramforallNo, because I crash 1600+ regulary and and same time I lose from 1200. I have two chess personalities. One keeps getting beaten by 1200-1300, losing to hung pieces and one-move forks (thinking per move= +- 0.5 seconds) and the other side that losses very hard even from 1600 players. In my tournament I have only one draw and 5 or 6 wins, some of them very convincing and all games against players that broke 1600 in the past.

When playing against weaker opponents I sometimes play my instrument near the computer, or play some computer game and then I refresh my browser and deal with "weak" players making move instantly 🙁
Originally posted by adramforallAnd yes, when I played 1200-1300 half-seriously for a month I would win 20 and lose 1 (look at my graph, last big climb)

My approximative winning ratio when playing serious 1550+ games is 6 or 7 wins, one loss. I just want to finally focus myself and to build a steel discipline. Maybe 10 or 15 games in progress is enough, so I won't become crazy again 😛
And, err... I am not looking for excuses like you wrote, I am looking for advice..

Originally posted by der schwarze RitterI don't worry about my rating because good rating is just sideeffect of good playing. But then I get dragged to blitzing, well bulleting actually and this cycling of 5 good games and 10 terrible never ends. I am thinking that cutting my games to 10-15 would help the most maybe.
Quit worrying about your rating and concentrate on improving your game. One way to do this would be to cut back on the number of games and stop playing blitz or with a fast time control.
