Who cares about some silly public statements ? Someone that was able to play every game for a win and was a chess addicted who brought so much for chess and who lived for chess, has to be praised at least by the chess player...
Even greenpawn's remark: "every chess player is my friend" is not true for me,
I stand for Fischer!
Why is there a need to talk down about someone? Chess players are like boxers in my opinion. Boxers talk a lot of trash talk before a match and their audience feeds on it. In of itself it is their own self promotion. Would you focus on a match of two great players over two great players who one of the players talked a lot of trash? Most people would watch the trash talker, one side of them would like the player for acting like he did and the other half wouldn't. However it could create a bigger crowd due to the "hype" of the game itself.
One thing people hate is someone who talks trash. Many people hate someone because they can talk trash and back it up. Fischer was one of those. Not saying that it is right, but I think it was his way of self promotion. Or possibly ego... Then again what grandmaster doesn't have an ego?
