Does anybody realize the present World Champ Rustam Kasimdzhanov is rated only 2640 in the FIDE ratings list? That makes him 54th in ELO in the world rankings. Fifth-fourth! That's what makes his accomplishment so amazing. What will he do up against the likes of Peter Leko, Kasparov, Kramnik, et al only the future will show.

Originally posted by buddy2Be careful. If the point is that the current mess around the worldchampionship makes everything fuzzy, than your point is well taken. But Kasimdzhanov is not a 'lightweight'. He has had draws and wins recently against most of the top players (Kramnik, Leko, Topalov, Svidler, Adams, ....). It shows that the top is getting broader. I don't think Kasparov is still at the lonely heights as his rating suggests.
