Is there 1 opening that i can use as black to cover all 1.d4 systems for white? I don't want to spend my limited time studying a myriad of queen pawn systems for black, i'd like a tactical opening as 90% of my study goes on tactics and endgame study.
Currently i am playing the scandinavian as a response to e4 and as white the kings gambit.
what about the albin counter gambit? i like the gambit openings which require you to play aggressively with rapid development and tactical finesse over positional quagmires.

I've heard of the Nimzo but didn't know that the queens indian was the response to 3. NF3.
Thanks, i'll investigate these openings further.

That said, if you want a gambit-style response, how about the Benko Gambit or the Benoni:

Originally posted by lucifershammerBenko and Benoni can't be played in response to a Tromp, or the London System style setups. If you want an opening that can be used against EVERY 1.d4 set-up it has to be the Albin. However I wouldn't like to be on the black side of that every time I was playing - far too depressing!

The real solution is that you need to be able to play a variety of positions to meet any of 1.d4, e4, c4 or Nf3.
Originally posted by Ossethats not true white can avoid the albin by playing kf3 before c4 so that only leaves the dutch leningrad 🙂
