Technically, chess doesn't have a world champion! there are two different, recognized chess bodies and there is not one single tournament allowing all the top competitors a chance to play each other. It's a FIDE and PCA (is that the one?) problem.

they way I see it, its all Kasparov's fault. Theres no need to have 2 different champions. its like way back in the day when the french decided to have their own pope. as many problems as there are with FIDE, as Fischer time and again pointed out, its still been the recognized chess entity from before most of us have been born if not all. even if chess didnt have a champion it would still be great. you dont see monopoly sales going down even though theres no champion for that(please dont tell me there is, ill go mad). all the greats have belonged to FIDE, it should stay that way.
