Do you guys ever get those couple of days where you just play horribly for some reason?

I've lost 4 games in a row by making stupid errors or blunders over the past couple days. I just can't seem to get out of my slump. I played a great game at school yesterday for the first 20 moves but ended up making a dumb blunder.

How do you guys get out of your slumps?

whenever I hit a slump, it's often tactical difficulties or oversights. often I just go play blitz games online until I start winning...typically it's enough to get my tactics back into gear

Thanks for the advice. I just finished this game. I'm rated 1400 and my opponent is around 1720.

I am black in this game.
Feels great to beat someone 300 points higher. One step closer to getting out of my slump...

It just means you are progressing. Your new knowledge is getting jumbled up with your old knowledge and it will just take some time for it t straighten itself out.

Yeah he did! Woulda won the Knight and Bishop I think. I guess it was one of HIS slump days too. A 1700 player woudnt miss stuff like that.

See why you shouldn't play too many games at once.

Yeap, it happens, either because of progress as tomtom232 pointed out earlier over here -and in such a case I don't mind-, or due to a string of miscellaneous reasons that they lead to a total lack of concentration -loss of interest included, and in that case I feel boxed and I want to escape asap.
On the other hand, the problem of a seemingly unexplicable total loss of sensing of the position is another agent that causes disaster, but the player overcomes it once he becomes mature enough to know that the chessboard is a minefield till the very last move of the game. You have to ride both the position and yourself in order to win.

Anyway I hate it when it happens to me -and I just lost the chance to win a tourney at this site because of it-, but I try to wash down immediately this bitter taste of dissapointment and idiocy by solving tactical problems and studying games with particular concepts of strategy. No big deal afterall😵

I try to wash down immediately this bitter taste of disappointment and idiocy by a large glass of Irn Bru, which is why there is always a bottle, in glass, chillin in the fridge🙂

Oh Irn Bru, the horror! After May 16 I punished myself by refusing to offer him the permission to drink more than a glass of malt (30ml) monthly until my next birthday. Wine and champaigne and every kind of alcohol is banned too. That miserable black bug will become a bit thirsty I reckon😵

The Rook, the Bishop and the Knight cover f8.

Best was 22.Qxf7+ Kh8 23. Qxe7
