i'd like to know if anyone above 1600 could give me an instructional game on the caro kann. i'm having trouble with it especially with this variation. e4 c6 d4 e5 Nc3 dxe4 Nxd4 Bf5. after white chases the bishop away and brings up his king pawn thats where i get lost. in the pawn structure book i have all it shows are games where they didn't play this variation and move up the f pawn. i need help with this if anyone is willing thanks.

I hate the C-K. I never want to play against it again! It has my worst record on this site

P3 W0 D2 L1 with another 4 games in progress.

and now everyone will play it against me so I get lots of practice improving.

I also find caro-kann annoying. Luckily I don't face it anymore since I switched to d pawn openings

lol many d4 openings transpose into the caro formation. and the same ideas are sought there.

well lets see...first of all a 'pawn formation' book cant be of too much help. If your serious about learning this passive opening I would recomend a general library book, like Nick de Firman's Modern Chess Openings (preferably a newer edition). But to address your question can you put exactly (in notation) the moves your having problems with (such as where it goes wrong). Maybe include some of your own games where we can see evidence of this.

Edit: Besides...whats a sicilian player like you doing with Caro-Khan??? if you really want to play something different try the Alekhines Defence.
Also, i might be stupid and your asking what to do as white. If its that case try playing the advanced variation with:
1. e4 c6
2. d4 d5
3. e5
From here I find it benefitial (more by loss as black than by anything) to take space as white and choke black in his pieces.

Although I'm not sure how detailed you want the instructional game to be, I hope you get some insight from the above sample.

Game 512222
Game 529963
Both games I was white. Both games also use the classical 4...Bf5 variation of the Caro Kann.

Hope these games help.

first of all i will pretty much always play a sicilian defense as black. i hate the caro kann formation. but as white i face it all the time. heres one of my games Game 2514676 this is the formation i like to play as white and i have the most trouble with the bishop move to f5. when white chases it away and brings his h pawn to h5 does white plan to castle queenside? does he still go for d5 like his previous pawn plan was. and does anyone have supplimental games where they won with white in the caro kann. this game is in progress so dont comment on anything further i just want to know about the general ideas of the middle game of this opening. thanks

I play 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 Bf5 (mostly played) 4.Nc3!

The thing behind this is to after 4...e6 play 5.g4! and after the bishop move to g6 then Nge2 to play it to f4 followed by h4 and just hunt the bishop.

ALOT OF THEORY but in real practise i got just victories.
Aggresive but as said ALOT OF THEORY.
