I just got this strange checkmate position -

Game 2668634

It was so unusual that I almost didn't believe it was checkmate. What have you guys got?

Nice game. Mate position like that is easily overlooked which obviously happened in your game. Most likely your opponent was salivating over the forced mate he could jump on you next move. You beat him to the punch though...

So unexpected that even he didn't notice it.

32. ... Nc6 looks good enough to save the game for black.

Knights can be devastating at times.

Blacks b-pawn looks dangerous. Do you think with Nc6, black could get the pawn down first?

I think I'd probably reply to that with Rb5, Nc6 is definitely the move I expected though.

When you certainly stand better but in that type of ending only a pawn up the weaker side certainly has good drawing chances. Never-the-less you have all the winning chances.

Yeah, I wasn't very pleased with the way I played most of that game. The opening was pretty weird.

I don't know. That b-pawn is strong.

If white's rook gets played as CMS suggested, then it may get tied up inbetween pawns, making it a little redundant. Black's rook value would become far higher.

If the knight goes right, it would also have a lesser value.

For me, the battle would be around the b-pawn where black has the advantage of having the king in the right place.

White for me also, but I think black has one chance.
