I always thought that wherever you put Kasparov in such a list, you HAVE to put Karpov right behind him, because they were SO close.

2. Kasparov
3. Botvinik
4. Steinitz
5. Alekhine
6. Karpov
7. Fischer
8. Larsen
9. Nezhmetdinov
10. Lasker
No Tal, Petrosian, MORPHY Smylov, Tarrasch, Bronstein....DanVM.
The explanations as to why they are on the list are questionable.
Tal (not in the top 10) gets a better write up than Nezhmetdinov in
Nezhmetdinov's section.
Make your own list and pin it up on your bedroom wall.
But please keep it to yourself, (I suspect some of the lads on here will have Fritz in the top three).
