I just dreamed up an interesting move on the white side of the pelikan... I'm wondering if it's book (I've not seen it before), or if there's some kind of refutation. As follows:
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 e5 6. Ndb5 d6 7. Bg5 a6 8. Na3 b5 9. Nd5 Be7 10. Bxf6 gxf6 11. c4!?
The idea being (a) get the light sq bishop developed somewhere useful on the recapture and prepare for kside castling, and (b) permit the bad knight to arrive at e3 via c7.
Of course, since I tried it out in blitz, my opponent kindly gave me both his bishops for free instead, as follows 11. ... O-O 12. cxb5 Qa5+ 13. Qd2 Qxd2+ 14. Kxd2 axb5 15. Bxb5 Bb7 16. Bxc6 Bxc6 17. Nxe7+ Kg7 18. Nxc6 1-0 ... but assuming one's opponent does not play like a madman, does 11. c4 seem like a decent move in this line?
Thanks...
lol I was thinking that. I dont play the opening at all so I cant comment on if it it is good or bad based on experience, but I left the move in Deep Junior for the last 20 minutes, c4 started off as the second best move and it is now sitting as the top recommended move with a 1.09 advantage to white.
I have the position after 11. c4 appearing in 5 games in my archive. 4 wins to white and a draw.
Responses being:
11. ...b4 12. Nc2
11. ...Qa5+ 12. Qd2
11. ...bxc4 12. Nxc4
The third of these occured in a simul and is just plain bad as far as I can see.
The other two look to have chances for both sides and I doubt the results are an accurate portrayl of the position itself.

Paul - you use Deep Junior! Either that, or you are Deep Junior!! 🙄
Just kidding ... 😀
But seriously, good going Paul.
