1. b3 is a tough move to win with... 1. ... b6 is fun, but one wrong step (even a small one) and it seems to be the end for Black.

What will you play now as Black?

as black i am going to play d5 if white plays d4 and e5 if white plays e4...and if he plays something else i am going to play anything that contests the center and developes quickly.

that was a win i shoulda had but failed to....so i took the draw....

In that game, although you started off playing on the wings, you eventually built up a nice pawn center nonetheless. Just worth mentioning...

You don't have to play 1. ... e5 in response to 1. e4 or 1. ... d5 in response to 1. d4 to manage to occupy the center.

For example, 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 (Caro-Kann) builds a pawn center and allows black relatively quick development.

IM Rashid Ziatdinov (is he a GM now?) agrees with you! He wrote an article (downloadable from Jeremy Silman's website) saying that when he played semi-open defenses he had trouble developing all of his pieces. He's strictly a 1...e5 guy when facing 1 e4.

What about the Sicilian?

1. e4 c5
2. Nf3 Nc6
...
seems fine to control the center

Play whatever opening you are most comfortable with and that you enjoy the most.

p.s. It takes awhile too figure out what works best for you. Not everyone likes the same kind of things. Try playing different openings for awhile until you think you've found the one you like best and feel comfortable at.
My favorite opening is the English, by the way. For now. 🙂

Well if you dont want to improve, keep playing those "braindead" openings.

Hey, you could try 1.e4 e5 2.Df3...that should not be too hard for you.
