no-one expected any more from Garry. He will finish in bottom third of standings

With an IQ of 180 or so he will learn how the younger gen plays and the next time will be different. Remember, blitz and rapid don't require heavy thinking for hours on end, that plays to the older crowd.

St. Louis Rapid & Blitz tournament

We're 2 days in so far, each day being 3 rounds of rapid games.

Here are both days in FULL, including commentary:

    Day 1 - YouTube

    Day 2 - YouTube

Both vids are around 4 and half hours, so make some time if you're interested in watching 🙂

    EDIT:
The final rapid round is today at local time 1pm (GMT-5) which is 7pm British Summer time.

I hope there will be a next time. He says this is a five day hiatus from retirement...

IQ is a near-meaningless number. IQs above 140 doubly so. IQ in the context of chess triply so. And unsources claims of stratosperic IQs entirely so.

A 12 year lay off from competitive chess and to a certain extent age
took their toll. Five of the players, Nakamura, Karjakin, Nepo, Navara
and Quang Liem were not even born when Garry was World Champion.

He had good and even winning positions in some games but hesitation
and some excellent fighting chess from his opponents caught him out.

His loss v Nepomniachtchi was good chess at this speed.

    Kasparov - Nepomniachtchi
