I'm not sure. I guess he did'nt do that because he wanted that move to develop other pieces. I would say it's a toss-up between bringing the bishop to bear on the knight, or pushing the g4 pawn to bear on the knight? I think I would favor pushing the pawn, and leaving the bishop to cover it.

Of course I've been known to bring the queen out after that pawn. Something tells me that would be a mistake though. What would you have done paultopia, you study openings, what is the right move?

I like 5. exd4 (his 5. Nxd5 is an error because the knight simply doesn't belong there, not unless there's an immediate intention to sac it on f7) then if

5. ... g4, 6. Ne5 transposes back into friendly territory. the file for the queen doesn't do much, it seems. qxd5 nxg4 (?)

5. ... Qxd5? 6. Nc3 etc. etc. -- a very bad line for black.

5. ... Bg4 is probably hardest. this creates a very hairy position. I'd have to go with d4 on principle, followed by either Qd3 or Be2, and though white's king is looking a bit ugly, I think white will be able to develop faster maybe?

So why don't I push the pawn to attack the knight paul?

yea, thst's 5. ... g4. Nxe5 and I think that just transposes back in an unspellable kirezetsky line.

Hey!

Stop talking about one of my bad games behind my back 😛

I will take the pawn next time Nyxie, but you are going to beat me in our current game too.

Gumbie, you make it sound so easy. Both times gumbie has opened against me with white he's chosen the king's gambit. There must be a reason why he uses this opening. I just don't feel I understand it enough to use it as an opening myself. I'm more comfortable with the queen's gambit. I did however take a king's gambit over the board just tonight to some people I play chess with in town. It's the first time I've used a king's gambit against any of them, and they were taken back. That does'nt mean I would feel comfortable using it here against people who obviously study these lines more then I do. It's all tactics both sides must play flawlessly. There's no room for a single mistake.

I just don't get the opening... and fischer's defense does'nt look any better tactically then anything else I've seen. I looked it up I found 20 games where the fischer defense was used since I asked the other night, in 2 black won, and lost 18 times. I think a countergambit is the way to go, and the next time I meet gumbie and he opens with the king's gambit, maybe I'll play a falkbeer countergambit. That is if I can figure out how.
